They definitely should have undercut Samsung by at least $150.

    Hang Nguyen

I would even say by $200 at least. It has way less features then Samsung so. Watch this reverse and give a reason for Samsung to charge more for their z fold 5.

    Sloppy Toons

To be fair. At that price point the target demographic doesn’t care if it’s saving a Benjamin here or there.

The target price should have been around $1200. Google makes money on their services, of all companies they can afford to bite the bullet the most. If this is on par with an iPhone Pro or regular Galaxy S Ultra on price, you could have a wave go that way.

    The King

$1599 would have been such a prettier number against the $1799 of Samsung. I was ready to skip out on some features if needed to get that lower price point.

I agree that $1399 or $1599 would have been HUGE. Still thinking if I should get this or the OPPO Find N2 and sell my Fold 3(which I am currently rocking). I am just glad that Samsung has some competition in the West as I think competition leads to better pricing, innovation for the end user. 📱📱❤️❤️

I don’t believe this has dust resistance as one of your slides show.

Holding off until i see the battery life tests

Adaptive battery is pretty cool ngl

I’ll be very fascinated how Michael Fisher will feel when he gets this Pixel Fold and reviews it. He’s been using foldables since January 1, 2020. For this entire decade. But he’s only been using Samsung foldables for the last 3.5 years. Those other ones are test units. Be curious how he’ll feel going to a non-Samsung foldable as a daily driver for the first time in this decade.

I actually really dig it because the Z Fold design never really made sense to me. It’s too narrow when closed which makes typing from the front a nightmare. Sure, it’s easier to grip but typing sucks. Then it’s also too tall when closed. I think Google really nailed the dimensions to this. Short enough that it won’t stick out of your pocket. Wide enough to type from the outside. Packs the same 7.6″ inner display as the Z Fold 4 even with all those bezels but in a smaller footprint.

I do believe the Z Fold 5 will have better scores than this Pixel Fold. We’re comparing a Gen 5 product to a Gen 1. You would think Samsung would figure it out by now after 4 years of foldables. Their software experience should be more refined. Add the fact it has DEX. But I never understood the dimensions for them. Very , very few new smartphones excites me during the last few years but this seems like one of them.

The Pixel Fold 1 is if the Surface Duo and Oppo Find N had a baby. I think this is going to be my favorite smartphone of the year even if it carries more flaws as the Z Fold 5 being that’s it’s a Gen 1 product without enough years of refinement. Looks way more pocketable and I love the fingerprint scanner is on the power button and not an in-display like the Pixel 6 and 7 which I hate. Too slow. Side button is way more instant.

Looks like a winner, Michael Fisher. Can’t wait for you to review it. I’ll get it in white (or “porcelain”) too and put a clear case on it like my iPhone X. Looks really classy with a clear case and the silver, chrome-y sides. And speaking of the sides, it’s rounded like the Find N and N2. It seems since last year, Samsung is shaving the sides by making them flatter. I prefer them rounded.

When closed
Pixel Fold: 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1 mm
Z Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm

Nearly the same height as the HTC One M7 and Nexus 5. Hell yeah! Hell naw to the price.

His video is out, just in case you didn’t know. I tried to post the URL here but it got deleted. 😅😅

haha I just love his face when he was first handed the pixel fold in his latest vid. He looked so happy

If Surface Duo and Find N2 had a baby…
iPhone 13 mini: *131.5* x 64.2 x 7.7 mm
Find N: *132.6* x 73 x 15.9 mm
Find N2: *132.2* x 72.6 x 14.6 mm
Pixel Fold: *139.7* x 79.5 x 12.1
Duo 1: 145.2 x 93.3 x 9.9 mm
Duo 2: 145.2 x 92.1 x 11 mm
Fold 3: 158.2 x 67.1 x 14.4-16 mm
Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm

I think Pixel Fold is THE ONE for me. Rounded sides. Not the flatter ones that Samsung seems to be pushing for since last year with the S22 Ultra. Fingerprint scanner on the side for instant unlocking.

That 139 mm matches nearly the same height as my Nexus 5. That’s 16 mm shorter than the Fold 4 while still having the same 7.6″ inner display albeit in a 6:5 aspect ratio and still having a smaller footprint in height and thickness.

If only Google had priced this at $999.. Samsung would be sweating and be forced to lower the price on their foldables. I remember when iPhone X first came out, people whined spending $1,000 on a phone. If a foldable gets priced at $1000, that’s a bargain.

I read the Oppo Find N3 will have an 8″ inner display compared to the 7.1″ on their previous ones, hence, why the overall footprint will be much bigger. No more sizes like the iPhone 12 & 13 minis. This is why I feel obligated to get this Gen 1 Pixel Fold already. What if they go bigger and get those flatter sides?

I may need to wait until Black Friday to get a really good discount on this. Or I can just wait for Pixel Fold 4 by 2026. I’ve been reading Google will go to TSMC with the Tensor G5. If Pixel Fold gets released in summers next to the Pixel a-series, that would mean it’s always at least 8 months behind the flagship from the previous year.

2023: Tensor 3
2024: Tensor 4
2025: Tensor 5 (TSMC)
2026: Pixel Fold 4 using Tensor 5

For the next 2 years, Pixel fans will be stuck with Samsung foundries. Tensor 3 will be no better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Still using the Mali GPU and not the AMD one. But if I wait that long, no guarantee I’ll enjoy the design and size from that future Pixel Fold 4 we haven’t seen yet.

So I might as well go for Gen 1 now and live with all the Gen 1 quirks. It seems a lot more refined for a Gen 1 product. Google took extra care with their first foldable, hence, the 2-year delay.

Holy crap IM BATMAN

I don’t think many people understand the pricing of Pixel Fold. It is their first gen product. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 1 is way more expensive than this price range if I remember. Google offers many features that Samsung didn’t in their first gen. This is for people who want to try out the first gen Fold, not for your average consumer. You can say the same with pixel watch. These have been in development for years. The first gen is always more expensive. Hopefully the next generation pixel watch amd pixel fold either get cheaper or get more features for the price.

    ABC Delicious 黃豹

Yeah I’m not sure why people are complaining about the pricing when Samsung has done/does the same thing. Now I’m not saying it’s not EXPENSIVE AF bc it is, but that is just something that comes with it if you decide to get a foldable(hopefully this changes in the future as more people get into this niche market) Anyways I am currently rocking a Fold 3 so I’m thinking about this or the OPPO Find N2 📱📱🤔🤔

Google and Samsung are partners, very close at that, hardware and software, so I suspect that Google did not want to engage in a price war with Samsung. Hence the similar pricing. I suspect that both companies are losing money with foldable’s, so they do not need to make things worse.

The good decision by Google was then to leverage the design, and those of us that are not empowered by Samsung’s thin and tall design can choose a far better aspect ratio if we want to join the dawn chorus of folding tech.

So, price to me is moot; folding tech is expensive and that is the price of entry, literally. With OnePlus incoming and outside the US, Chinese imports and Huawei, we will now gauge whether the future is foldable’s or is it just a niche sub-set?

Barbary Studio

Legitimate price for the pixel fold is €1499,- for the 512gb with old hardware from last year.

For the 256gb €1399,-

With this price point the pixel will be the most sold foldable devices on plannet earth.

Disappointed that there is no release in the Netherlands.

Great looking phone!!

Oppo Find N2 solved the crease problem

I’m waiting for the IP68 foldable, but this is such a good looking phone though!

Justin Dufrene

Looks like an awesome device to me. Love the form factor and the pixel camera

Just concerned about the battery life

I got the fold 4 for $450… Im sticking with that.

Matt Klein

Side note: my Pixel Watch has had awesome battery life after the updates, and it’s actually super easy for me to recommend. It’s easily the best first generation device I’ve ever used. So I guess your mileage may vary? But I’ve got high hopes for their foldables after seeing what the Pixel Fold has to offer.

awesome battery life is subjective if you arent comparing it to another smartwatch. So have compared it to another smartwatch?

can a company make a foldable tablet 😀

Jerry Bowers

No matter what a company do or doesn’t do… someone will complain about something!🤦🏾‍♂️

The Huawei Mate X3 is currently to date the thinnest ‘foldable’ phone.

If you remember when Samsungs first fold came out, it was $2000. Their second version was $2000 and they’re still in business making foldable’s.

Neo Anderson

This already looks peak design IMO. bezels are fine and leave some room for you to grab the phone. I also like how bezels ‘frame’ the screen on my laptop so background doesnt distract me. If the battery and screen holds up idk how they could even improve this. Front facing speakers would be cool actually

Neo Anderson

This pixel fold kind of hit the ground running which is always cool to see
