Even if it’s not what people wanted, you have to give them credit for surprising us at least.

    Yeaaah

I have to say it just looks so interesting and I can imagine on a long flight having it propped up like that or connecting it to your computer to show notification

“Even if it’s not what people wanted”. No. You don’t give credit for people wasting time and not providing consumers with what they wanted

Motorola has surprisingly good UI so it’s interesting to know what they’ll do with this secondary display.

    Melk

    Yeah love the gestures feature

    Damien Rahul

And surprisingly really bad software updates speed takes a year or two

    hasiko_xgj7

@Damien Rahuland also one of the worst if not the worst warranties

    King Wavy

@Damien Rahuland usually a pretty terrible camera. I love moto’s ideas but they typically lack follow through

    Tony Jenn

@King Wavythe last razr had a good camera from what most reviews say

Motorola literally took “We never knew we needed this, but deserved it” to the next level

    Ok

    Yea

This is the first phone in so long that’s actually intrigued me. The form factor being so small in its folded state AND being able to use it , and the camera use… just so good . . .

    FR it’s perfect 🔥

I think that second screen is really dope. Especially for content creation. You can film yourself with the good camera and see what your doing. Also just folding it and not needing a tripod when it’s on a table can come in handy.

Jason Irizarry

Definitely liked your point about shutting the phone down when it’s closed vs having almost 2 phones in 1 similar to the folds. It would be nice to close your phone and be shut off for a while and save some money. Interesting take 👍

I love the outside display. Having a fully functional outside display is huge especially in situations where you just need to take a quick action without having to open the phone. That is a big plus to have that flexibility.

Just get a normal phone. You’ll never have to open it.

It’s certainly going in the right direction. I think if they keep iterating on this they could start making some serious headway in the fight against Samsung, which is great because we badly need that competition in the market, especially in America. Having said that, I’m holding onto my S22 Ultra for as long as I can, so when I finally do upgrade, there won’t be any compromises in specs with a foldable.

I am in the market for a folding phone and I was gonna settle for a pixel fold. However I love the form factor and style of the razor. I can’t wait for more reviews to come out, it justr looks so good

This is literally EXACTLY what I wanted the Samsung Flips to do!! This is awesome, I hope others take notes🙌
Plus it probably lessens the amount of flipping you do, thus saving that hinge from more stress.. in theory lol

    Voided Media

At that point why not just get a regular phone? The purpose of a flip phone is for it to flip open

    Pixels

Same here. Hopefully it’s more durable because the only thing keeping me away from foldables is the self cracking crease on Samsung’s

Matthew Hennes

I actually love this implementation. I’d set it up to do everything productive on the outside display, but require opening for anything time waste-y. My only hangup is the 1080p inside display, I love tiny display scaling so that I can fit TONS of stuff onscreen at once, but that really only works with 1440p

I’ve been waiting for a bigger outside screen. It’s definitely next gen with the convenience of a compact and accessible function that sometime will allow me to use with one hand (carrying bags, a quick text response, etc) due to reach/longer screen. They shamelessly borrowed the Z flips look but if it was what sells, why not. Both version looks good!

sorry for anyone with the hype about the large cover display. Snap 8+ Gen 1 and 3800 mAh battery is a perfect combo for constant charging aka ip 12 mini life

    Moises Coronado

No, I believe that is suck.

matt87

While i agree on the distraction aspect of the outside screen, i still think its a cool that you can limit what apps you use on the outside, say to more basic essentials, yet have them be fully functional when you need them (google maps, wtc.) I could see using this when out with friends etc so you dont get ‘sucked in’ by everytuinf else.

I think this is incredibly useful for spotify, sometimes I just want to see what song is playing and skip a few songs or maybe add it to my liked songs, I could do all that on the smaller screen without unlocking it

Colby DeVane

Seeing yourself with the main camera is a huge plus. I do “no look selfies” all the time because the camera is SO much better. This helps me take the perfect shot, and has a kick stand built in. Amazing feature I didn’t know I needed.

    wyzarme

It’s probably the most compelling feature of the folding phones in general. Most people I show my Fold 4 to are impressed by the folding but they’re amazed by the ability to show the subject what’s being taken in the photograph – your partner will love the ability to adjust themselves using the built-in preview.

Tyrone North

I like both variants of the folding phone. As you mentioned the bigger fold are productivity monsters and I think the small folds will need to lean into convenience which they have done some

Eugene Khumalo

I like this. It’s dope. The whole idea of a folding phone is not having to open it to do simple tasks. With that outside screen I can quickly control my music, see messages, do a quick reply, quick look at my calender and so much more.
I think this will be a def hit

    Oggy Oggy

But you don’t need to open a normal phone to do ANY task.

Michael Dahlinger

I think most people would use it for notifications and music controls, maybe quick text responses. Ultimately I think it’s a huge feature just to be able to see your notifications without needing to unfold the screen every time (though a smartwatch would accomplish something similar). Don’t see the average user treating it like a main display though.

Shilo

I love the design and brings me back to the original razor that we all loved as kids! I do agree about the fully function screen on the outside. It’s a bit innovating but as a simplistic person and simplistic design, I do think its fighting against that fact. I love the idea of going back to a smaller phone and keeping most of the usability to the inside of the phone sounds most straight forward. But hey better to have too many features rather than not enough features! I do think the outside screen woudl be a must for notifications and selfies.

The Driving Cook

I think it looks cool and I also think the bigger screen is more helpful if you want to send a quick text it is easier to do now with the bigger screen. But I do agree the 599 to 799 price point for the smaller screen one is more of a game changer!

It was pretty inpressive with where Motorola is heading with this. It left a really good impression after the disappointment we had on the last gen. And the options they are leaving for the premium plus version and the regular razr is a good move on their part. Price is not as expensive as I thought either. I feel like the plus version is their take on instead of creating a hot dog productivity device, they’re leaving these small screen options for your productivity and adding to a smaller form factor. The front screen does feel a bit gimicky though, and like you said, the barrier to stop you from drowning in that dopamine spiral is not really there. It’s a tradeoff between looking cool and getting addicted. I would probabaly get the regular model if I could because during these times another gimmick becomes another distraction in this case. If I could just have something solid that fits in my palm but works well as a phone, it would be nice. And if it doesn’t break my wallet!
